Progression Explained: Levels, Memetics & Tech Points

How you actually get stronger: character levels, the Memetics tree, and where Tech Points come from.

Updated July 21, 2026

Once Human has several progression layers running at once. Here’s what actually matters and where to invest.

Character level

Almost everything you do grants XP: quests, exploration, fighting, even gathering. Level unlocks gear tiers and Deviant slots, so just playing the game moves you forward. Don’t grind levels for their own sake, they come naturally.

Memetics (your real power curve)

Memetics is the tech tree where you unlock crafting recipes, base tech, and quality-of-life upgrades. This is your real progression: a new workbench tier or weapon recipe changes your game far more than one extra level. Prioritize survival basics, then your weapon line, then base tech.

Tech Points and where to farm them

Memetics runs on points earned from Elites, Great Ones, Securement Silos, Monoliths, and Scenario Challenges. Translation: do the world content. Clearing Silos and taking down bosses funds your entire unlock path.

Seasonal phases

Scenarios run in timed phases that unlock content week by week. Don’t panic about “falling behind”: phases pace everyone, and your account-level unlocks carry meaning across seasons.
